We Bought A House!!!

We just experienced an incredible whirlwind!!! The four of us left Santa Barbara on Wednesday morning to catch an airplane at noon. We flew out of LAX, through Detroit and into Lansing, arriving around 10:30 pm. We stayed with Byron and Marcia, who were juggling work and a sick child! On Thursday morning, our wonderful realtor picked us up and we spent the day touring through nine houses - with our kids!!! We narrowed it down to the top three and then were able to eliminate one. So by the afternoon, we were down to two houses, the sensible standard house and the risky original house. We debated back and forth, trying to decide which one would be the best. We really liked the "risky" house because it fit our personalities and had a lot of really cool features, but it had down sides as well. It had a pool (which we didn't want) and it only had two bedrooms, with a possible bedroom in the finished basement. The sensible house had four bedrooms, a nice kitchen, a large unfinished basement and a large grassy yard. The big downside of the sensible house was the lack of personality. So, Kevin and Byron went back to both houses on Thursday evening for another look. It helped to have Byron's critical eye and experience! We finally decided that while the risky house was cool, it would be a risky resale. The sensible house was like a lot of other houses, but we can make it our own. So, we made the decision to put an offer on the sensible house that evening. Later that night, we had a counter to our offer. We responded to the counter and the homeowner agreed with our response! On Friday afternoon, we signed the paperwork and Kevin went through the house with the inspector. Then on Saturday, we flew out of Lansing at noon and ended up back in LA by that night! Whew!!!

So, we have a closing date of June 20th!!!! We are now referring to ourselves as:
Wingerd's In the Big Blue House

(For those of you who have no clue, it's a take off of Disney's Bear In the Big Blue House - a favorite of Andrew & Kaitlyn's.)

Our moving truck comes on June 13th and we are flying out to Michigan on June 16th. We will keep you updated!!! :o)

Congrats on the job and the new house!! Our new house is blue too, but much smaller (as we could only afford in the SF Bay area!!). I guess we're the "Staples in the Little Blue House". But it's enough room for us, and a big yard for expansion. Keep in touch, and we'll send you our developing family site soon!
